Senate Speakers Bureau
The Faculty Senate Speakers Bureau helps community and school
groups throughout the Commonwealth identify U.Va. faculty
speakers for special events and meetings at no charge. The
Speakers Bureau also serves U.Va. alumni clubs throughout
the country.
Jefferson Institute for Lifelong Learning
(JILL)
Through the Center for University Programs, JILL offers a variety
of university-level, non-credit classes tailored to the interests
of senior citizens who are eager to learn and explore.
Cresent Halls Nursing Clinic
This program provides health services to older citizens living
in and around the Charlottesville area.

About
the speaker
Dr. Lindsay served as Head of the Division
of Geriatrics at U.Va. for over twenty years and is currently the Chairman
of the Commonwealth Council on Aging. He was selected as one of the first seven
Geriatric Medicine Academic Awardees by the National Institute of Aging and
developed the geriatric curriculum, fellowship training program and continuing
education program in geriatrics. He is a past President of the American Geriatrics
Society and past Chairman of its Board of Directors. He served as a member
of the former Governor’s Advisory Board on Aging for the Commonwealth
Virginia under 5 Governors and as its Chairman under Governor Allen. A recipient
of numerous honors and teaching awards, Dr. Lindsay continues to be involved
in the teaching of geriatrics to medical students and residents. He is also
a sought after speaker and expert on aging issues at the national level. He
has testified before the United States Senate on aging issues and the problems
of shortages of care providers. Dr. Lindsay recently participated in a national
TV course on caregiving and has co-hosted a TV series on aging for WVPT. This
past summer, Dr. Lindsay was appointed by Governor Warner to represent Virginia
at the upcoming White House Conference on Aging. The White House Conference
on Aging occurs only once a decade and delegates provide aging policy recommendations
to the President and Congress.
