Please Disturb

The humanities sometimes cause us to confront issues that disturb and unsettle us. Have you ever read a book that changed your life? Have you ever heard a speaker whose words inspired you to action? Have you ever written anything that helped you grapple with some inner issue, or told a story that cried out to be shared? If so, you know the transformative power of the humanities. Download PDF

2006

There's energy in the air at VFH.

A strong sense of mission and an excitement about the future charge our work. It is an exciting mission to help individuals, organizations, and communities harness their ideas and raw energy to understand the past, confront important issues in the present, and shape a promising future. In many ways, we see our role as that of catalyst, turning untapped power into ideas and actions that matter. Download PDF

When was the last time you flew a kite?

In these days of diminishing resources, organizations must develop an entrepreneurial spirit to thrive. We encourage innovative, visionary thinking and — occasionally — risk-taking to bring ideas to life. Download PDF

At the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities We Hear Voices

Hearing voices is so central to our mission that we listen for them all the time: voices of the scholar and the folk artist, the poet and the legislator, the child learning to read and the teacher inspiring new generations. Download PDF
